On the march SAT, I got a 710 math first try as a sophomore. Is it plausible for me, given practice, to reach an 800 by May? Or is the difference between a 710 and 800 just too great?

with a 710 in march i'd say you could probably bump that up to a 760 by may, but since you're still only a sophomore i'd wait till next year if you really want the 800

Okay, I'll shoot for the 800 this may, but I'll realistically expect a 760. Thanks :)

practice, practice, practice and you'll get it.

I'm serious.

I just bought the Kaplan Math workbook...hopefully I'll finish it by May 5 :)

Give me feedback on the workbook...I haven't heard much on Kaplan workbooks. Might give it a try.

Will do, nyjunior!

I think 710 easily demonstrates sufficient skill in SAT Math topics to score an 800 in a few months.

What I would do is get a bunch of practice tests -- maybe 30 or so -- and skip straight to the final few questions on each section. You already have the easy and medium down pat and only need to worry about not making silly mistakes on those. Familiarity with the harder types of questions is most important now.

I say it's definetely possible, since you are just a sophomore. I went from a 750 to 800 in 2 tries so I definetely think you'll be able to do it. If not in may, then definetely by the october testing. And besides, you still have all of your junior year left so I won't stress out about getting it done right away. You'll have plenty of time to get that 800.

Yes, but Ashraf is in a good position to get the SAT out of the way early, so that he/she can focus on the AP exams and SAT II's without having to worry about the SAT later, which will be a HUGE advantage. Bravo, excellent planning. If only I was smart enough to do such.

It's totally plausible. I went from a 630 in Math to a 780. Math is really the easiest score on the test to bring up. The SAT is aiming to test a very specific type of Math aptitude; therefore, the amount of potential question types is limited. In other words, the math section is the same crap over and over and over; once you learn a concept, you'll never get a question like that wrong again (unless you calculator-typo :))
good luck, better work ethic.

Wow, thanks guys! This has really helped boost my self confidence...I originally thought my 710 meant that I had no shot at 800.
