Hi,
I’m a junior in HS that is very interested in Amherst. I’ve been a lot about it lately and I’ve gotten the sense that its almost expected of you to go to grad school.
I’m not really sure if graduate school is something I’d consider (and thats if I can afford it, lol)
Is Amherst not a good choice for someone who’d like to start working out of college?

Something like 75% of Amherst alumni do end up going to grad school within six years of graduation. That still leaves a fair number of graduates that never go back to school, and even those who do return to school usually spend some time working first.

I don't get the impression that Amherst "expects" anyone to go to graduate school. Certainly, top companies recruit directly from Amherst and you would have no problem finding work in a consulting firm or wherever straight out of college. I think it's more like, Amherst students tend to be the type to want to get PhDs and higher degrees.

I think, Amherst sincerely encourages the best path for you personally, whether that means attending grad school or finishing at a BA. I know it sounds corny.
