Is going to Penn State a bad idea?

Over 90% of the 2012 team chose to stay at Penn State. Amazing, given the circumstances, and while not a big football fan - makes me appreciate those kids more than ever.

Same here.

Even with the scandal PSU is a great school. My son is a senior and it has been a fantastic school for him–great instructors that really make themselves available to the kids. Also, the alumni groups are really looking out for the kids who are graduating with all this going on. Love PSU

Here in 2015, I am a Graduate transfer engineering student at University Park, PSU will not transfer in my quarter hours, and they proceed to bully and target students who ask questions, in their couching patronizing manner. The university has taken such a ego hit and financial loss, and they are now overcharging their students for activity fees, parking fees, and food court fees. The academic advisers are intern students who are not proficient in providing helpful academic advice, and provide no solutions for their students who need direction and focus for graduation requirements. Like any other university, Penn State has good and bad professors for the most part. I also have two friends who are veterans from the Marines at University Park, and the so-called Veterans Outreach they have on campus, only forwards their questions to the administration buildings, and provides no real solutions for veterans. Also, my friend. she has a learning disability and the professors failed to turned her paperwork back into the disability department, making her have to find the professors after class to find out why. The dysfunction of University Park has nothing to do with JoePa or the Sandusky Freeh Report, it has to do with the way the students are manipulated by the faculty and administration on campus. I will be transferring and applying to a new institution, due to University Park’s bullying and not following ethical guidelines.

@Citizengirl298 I’m sorry you feel that way about Penn State, I could write a lot more about what you said, but will only say this; considering this will be your third transfer, you may want to evaluate whether your expectations for any university can be met.

Penn State had more applications this year than ever. The NCAA has reversed their original decisions and most rational people realize that what happened at Penn State could happen anywhere. Penn State is a top 50 University with world class professors, research and facilities. It is still #1 for recruiters which is more important than football players in my opinion. The school is so much more than football and it always has been.

*I just saw the dates on the original thread…this is old except for last comment before mine…which makes a lot more sense when I read the other posts in the thread
