Is Guyana considered part of Latin America?

I often struggled with this question when applying to college and hope this will help others in my position.

*I am of mixed Guyanese descent. My mother is primarily Indo-Guyanese and Spanish- Guyanese. My father is primarily Afro-Guyanese. On forms, I fill out multi-racial and specify Afro-Guyanese and Indo-Guyanese.

This is because in my opinion blacks and Indians of Guyanese descent are NOT the same as African-Americans/Afro-Americans or Indians from India.

Remember:
-As Guyana does not speak Spanish, it IS NOT a Hispanic country (like Mexico or Venezuela).
-The OLD definition of Latin Ameican said that if you are located in Latin America (or of that descent ) you are Latinx. Therefore ALL of South America should be part if Latin America.

(It was confusing to me why people would call Brazilians latinx, but NOT consider Guyana which is located right next to Venezuela and above Brazil part of Latin America.)

ANSWER:
NOW the definition of Latin America is:

Wikipedia: "is a group of countries and dependencies in the Americas where Spanish and Portuguese are predominant. "

The English speaking Guyana is not included in this definition. Culturally, Guyana is closer to West Indian counties (like Trinidad and Tobago) . (Side note: the Indo- Guyanese population still feels a strong connection to mother India.)

Honestly, I think that there is a weird (probably racist) double standard happening here, especially because of the extreme diversity of Guyana (“Land of Six People” which INCLUDES Portugese).

Hope this helps some confused student with silly race and ethnicity questions.

Also wikipedia says: [Guyana] is, however, included in the Caribbean region due to its strong cultural, historical, and political ties with other Anglo Caribbean countries and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
