Is handwashing normal clothes weird?

I would think that most colleges do not include laundry service in the cost of “room and board”. Laundry at Yale can be done 2 ways: 1. a laundry service where you pay and drop off your clothes and they are washed and folded for you and you pick it up 2. self service where you go to washers and dryers yourself and pay (located in some of the residential colleges, like Bingham) and just like at home, you load it in the washer, then transfer to dryer, then fold them and take them back to your room. Handwashing works ok for a small amount of items, but it’s difficult for a “regular load” size of clothes.

D’s remarks after doing first loads of laundry away from home, “wow, this is annoying” (meaning schleping clothes to and from washer/dryer; she already often did laundry at home). I said “yes, this is how you will do laundry for the next 10 years or so, until you own a washer/dryer of your own, say in a condo.”
