Can previous students tell me how this laundry thing works @ Berkeley?

Does each student get their own washing machine? [so we don't mix up our clothes]

How long does it take to wash the clothes before we can go pick them up?

Do we have to dry clothes ourselves? Or is there a special machine for that?

What if we accidentally end up taking someone else's clothes?

Where do people usually keep dirty clothes before washing?

How often can we wash clothes?

Is there a fee?

No, you must buy one for 700$ a month

About a month

Yeah, you have to put them in the microwave

You get to keep them for free

Under your bed

Once every semester

Only the 700$ a month

No you do not get your own machine! You have to share it with other people. There is a laundry room on every other floor.
I think it is around 1 hour for washing and 1 hour for drying. You are responsible for coming back to take your clothes out of the washer and putting them in the dryer.
There is a drying machine.
I hope you do not end up taking someone else’s clothes. Come on, you are smart enough to get into Berkeley. lol, always double check before taking the clothes out of the machine.
People usually have a clothing hamper in their room where they put their dirty clothes in before washing.
You can wash your clothes for as many times as you wish but you have to pay for it yourself so I suggest to save up a big pile before washing so you don’t waste your money.
Yes, you have pay to for each wash/dry. I don’t know the price so maybe someone else can help with this part. You can pay using quarters only or with your Cal1card.

I’m gonna guess you’re dorming… steven’s right: ~40 minutes for the washing, 1hr for drying. and $1.50 for the washer, $1 for the dryer if I recall correctly.

@stevenboi27: HOW do you know so much? You’re Berkeley '14 too!

Thanks for the prompt reply…but for question #4(What if we accidentally end up taking someone else’s clothes?), I was more worried about similar-looking items.
For example, white socks. Those are prettty difficult to pick out, especially if there’s an entire batch of white socks to pick yours from. So do we have to label our socks?

people don’t wash their laundry with yours. you pay for your own washing machine for ~40 mins and dryer for 1hr. you don’t mix with others. you just have to be able to pick up your laundry in a reasonable amount of time so as not to make others dump yours out and put theirs in. (it happens, but not often)

That’s REALLY expensive to wash & dry clothes… Wow I was planning to do my laundry like once or twice a week if it was like $1 a load for wash and dry, but $2.50 a load??

I think I’m sticking to once a week. Or whenever I accumulate enough clothes for a full load (which should be once a week)… Expensive but what can we do?

work it out with your roomie?
my room mate is pretty neat so we were saying that if we don’t get enough for a full load we’ll split costs and share a full load every week.
