Is Hopkins a good place to study comp science?

Hey guys, i'm looking for a good school to study comp science/engine. My close friend is a CS major at Hopkins, and he told me Hopkins was pretty good. However, i've heard that Hopkins is only good for pre-med and bio-related majors. Hopkins' CS department is rather small and doesn't do well in ranking (26th nationally, 70++ globally i think). Any opinion about that?

I have a friend who does computer science. While it is not necessarily well-known, it is small so you can get to know faculty and do research pretty easily.

And actually, I think Hopkins has more top-ranked humanities majors than science majors so your claim about it being good for just biology is false.

talking about research, does CS get as much research funding as other majors? my friend tells me that i’ll get much more attention if i do smt involving biology.

I don’t know how much funding they get, but they definitely don’t get as much as biology or BME. Some departments get a lot more funding than others and unfortunately, my two majors are in the “not much” category. If you visit the school, go to the department and learn more.

There are a lot of resources for CS students at Hopkins. It’s a smaller department (good thing!) as the students get a lot of one-on-one instruction and guidance with their research projects. It’s easier to get funding in the CS department than say something else because there are fewer students in the department.

I know several students who have gone to work for Google from JHU. It’s a very high quality program.
