Is I-SWEEEPS a hook for a top school?

How prestigious is I-SWEEPS? http://isweeep.org

Is it nationals recognized (like SIEMENS)-- aka do you guys on CC recognize this or think “WOW!”? My sister wanted me to ask this, as she has been notified as a finalist for ISWEEEP in Texas but isn’t sure how well-known it is outside of her school.

Awards and competitions don’t really count as hooks. Is it a great award that would help your sister out? Naturally like any somewhat competitive state/national award, it should help her out and add to her application especially if that is the field she is going in. Is it a hook? No, because hooks are usually defined as things like legacy, URM, high donor, recruited athlete, and some other possible thing that specific school really needs. Just out of curiousity, do you know how many people enter and how many people move through the rounds? And to answer your other question, I’ve never heard of it before today but seeing as they have people from around the world enter, I think it is pretty known outside of her school.

@QMusic Despite my residence in the US, we are actually international students from Brazil (lol weird, ik, and no, we are not Brazilian), so because im at boarding school, my little sis still resides in Brazil. There are a LOT of finalists (I think maybe 100?) from around the globe, which seems like a lot to me? Not many USA participants though

It is not a hook, but it definitely shows a commitment and accomplishment in the sciences. My daughter attended and won awards several times through middle and high school, and it was a great experience. There are social activities and field trips for the students along with the competition.
