CMU says on their website that they will meet full financial need for those accepted ED. I calculated my EFC using their methodology (FM) and my parents said it's a viable sum. Now, I know I have to get accepted first to worry about money, but is it a better idea to apply RD and compare offers or just go straight for this one. This school is one of my top 3 schools and I wish to apply to this one ED because of it's pledge to meet all need.

Only apply ED if it is without a doubt your first choice.

CMU will very likely be a better financial option if you ED there rather than RD, but if this would remove the possibility of going to your top choice, it is a bit risky.

I found this on the site:
“Carnegie Mellon will meet the full demonstrated need with a combination of grants, loans and work-study as calculated by the university for all students admitted under early decision. However, we do not guarantee to meet full need for students who are deferred or denied admission under Early Decision and later admitted under Regular Decision”

CMU is my top choice for Comp Sci, but the only reason its not my top choice for certain is because of the money. So in essence, it is my top. That was confusing.
