Is it a good time to search for housing now?

So I noticed that MANY students are moving out from west campus tonight and yesterday since their yearly leases are over, and therefore (as I heard), the apartments would be desperate to fill in the empty spots and would actually lower the prices to more than 30% of the original price, is this true? I'm waiting until August if this is correct, or otherwise I would just go ahead and reserve a room from now before they get filled up.

Not really. Most if not all of the good apartments/condos are filled up now. Probably safer to just get one right now rather than wait it out and might ending up having no place to stay.

Haunted4eva-- are you trying to find a place for fall 2012?? Pretty much all the places are booked for this upcoming school year. There’s a 1 to 2 week gap between the time that people from the old year move out (as you saw in west campus today) to the time that the new people move in. During that time, the realtor offices and maintenance people go in to clean all the apartments and make sure the appliances and whatnot are working. That is the specific reason those apartments will be vacant for a few weeks.

I can assure you, prices are not exactly lowered for this time frame at all. Most of the apartments are leased for this fall/spring. The few that are still available are being increased in price for the people who still have yet to find a place and desperately need somewhere to live before school starts.

If you’re trying to find a place for fall 2012, start calling in around late fall like late November and December if you want the best pick. A lot of people are finding their places in early spring if going for the west/north campus areas. And some people do wait til the summer but then not as many places are available. Just don’t call realtors now for next fall! haha. I work at a realty company in west campus and we’ve already had people looking for a place for 2012. We’d be happy to take down your information and call you back as soon as preleasing starts though! :)
