Is it all right to use my UofChicago essay for other schools?

My UChicago essay answers the "At present, you must live the question" prompt, and I'm very fond of it. I want to use it again for Emory's essay. Emory's application says that I can write about anything that genuinely interests me, but I'm worried that my Chicago essay is a bit offbeat/unexpected. Could this break from the norm hurt my Emory application?

It's fine, as long as you answer the question. But because Emory will probably know that this was for the UChicago essay, you might want to adapt it a little. That's what I did for my UChicago essay. I answered the prompt last year that asked "Tell us about your table." I wrote about my desk. For the Common App I made a topic of my choice, Tell us about something important to you, and basically used that same essay on the Common App, but in a way such that the essay could fit either way.

I wouldn't use the exact same. Modify both essays so they fit well with the prompts.

No. Your UChicago essay will probably be WAY too crazy for the others.
