Is it bad to change HS my senior year?

I'm just into the second quarter of my junior year and im thinking that i should change schools. The reason why is because i believe i get no benefits stayin at this school. They selected 15 of the best students in the school to do the trial program for IB and i am one of these students. However even though i am doing IB level courses i do not get to take the IB exams because my school isnt a full IB school yet. I feel like they are just using me to get the school approve. The only good thing is my classes are weighted 25% higher than a regular course. So i was thinking that i would finish my junior year and my GPA would be over a 4.0 then transfer to another school to take AP classes because my school doesnt offer any.
Also i am the captain of both the soccer and basketball team at this small school and i lead the soccer team to the second round of the districts which is the first time ever in school history and we lost to the team that won the champioinship so i was wondering if colleges would like if i elevated the competition level by going to a division 1 school other than my d3 team. i kno i wouldnt be a captain but i would be able to make the team.
My GPA at the moment is 3.78 but it will definitely be over a 4.0 by the end of this year and i was wondering if it would be better if i change schools and be in the higher percentage of a class of 500 other than a class of 50.
Then my last question is if colleges would look down on my for changing schools my senior year and what would be the best option. My main reason for changing is to take ap classes so i can receive college credit. I really need advice on this. Please and thank you

Here are some things to consider:

You will be evaluated relative to what your school offers. So, the fact that you’re at the top of your class (taking the IB coursework, high weighted gpa, team captain, etc.) is very good. If your current HS doesn’t offer AP courses, that won’t be counted against you; and anything that you do to increase your academic challenge (eg. taking the IB classes, taking college classes) will help you. I’m not sure why you say that when you change to a school of 500 you’ll have a higher class rank than now, it seems like it might be the opposite.

Many colleges limit the amount and type of AP credit they will accept. You should take a look at the websites for colleges you’re interested in to see how much AP credit they will actually accept.

Colleges won’t look down on you just because you changed HS as a sr, but the change may affect you in negative ways: tougher to get excellent LORs from teachers and your GC since they haven’t known you as long, starting up new ECs rather than having leadership roles at your old school, etc.

Also, if you are doing AP level curriculum, you could possibly self study and take the AP examination.

Don’t change schools simply as a way to “game” the college admissions system. It sounds like you are doing very well at your school: you are a leader academically and athletically and I bet your teachers and counselors will give you great recommendations. You are an integral part of your HS community and that says a lot to college admissions officers. Changing schools probably will not help you at all, and may end up hurting you in the end. Attending a high school with limited AP’s or IB’s will not have a negative impact on your college admissions.

well would colleges like that im challengin myself by goin to a d1 school for academics as well as athletics? im a leader at my school but i do not like my school at all. and for LOR couldnt i go back i get some from my old school because i have teachers that i have realli good relationships with and would give me one even if i leave? i jus dont like the environment and ppl at my old school. and the ap and ib are different. ib focuses on goin in depth while ap focuses on covering a wide range of data so i dont think i will do well if i dont take an ap class. also my school has not had any1 that has gone to a good college. many of the students go to community colleges and its a small school. also for ECs i only do sports and student council but i do many other things outside of school. i jus wanna enjoy my senior year with a better environment and play at a higher lvl with sports. i dont feel satisfied winnin against d3 teams.

In your OP you asked about how changing schools would affect college admissions, with no mention of your being unsatisfied due to social environment, level of sports, etc. No one here is trying to say that you should stay a place where you’re unhappy.

yea but would it affect with my college admissions? i mean i love sports but i jus wanna kno what you guys think would b a good option
