Im in your basic college prep classes but no honors or AP. I made it into one honors class for junior year, and qualified for another, but it was filled. Will it look bad that I've only taken standard courses?

Semester grades were
88-theology
american lit-92
German 2-93
Geometry-79( i suck at math)
Bio- 92
World history- 91

89 average

p.s. NOT LOOKING TO GO TO HARVARD OR ANY TOP SCHOOLS.

I wanna go to a school that has good academics and is into their sports.

you dont have to take every AP or honors, but if they are offered at your school, definitely take a few (maybe 2 to 3 if possible?)

if your school offers say 15 AP classes and u dont take one, it will be clear ur not challenging urself

Its not my choice thought. I cant meet the requirements. To be in AP at my school, you have to be in honors for that subject the year before. We only offer no more than 4 APs anyway. But yeah ill only be in one or two honors next year.

My school doesn't offer APs, and only two honors classes have been available during my entire time in high school, but kids still get into good schools, (example: UM ann arbor). If your grades, extracurriculars, and ACT/SAT scores are good, you'll be fine. Like the second poster said, it is good to take at least a few if your school offers them, but the rest of your life is not going to be absolutely ruined if you aren't able to take all of them.

Don't let the people on this site worry you. In the worst case scenario, if you don't get into a school you like, you can just transfer.

As long as you keep your grades up and weren't planning on applying to any ivies or the like you'll be fine.

i hate schools that restrict AP programs; mine has 16 aps and anyone (even absolute morons) can sign up for them, and certain ap courses are unbelievably easy

Mid-level state schools!

You can still go to half-decent colleges like Ohio University, Temple, and Suny Albany.

That's fine. You don't have to take AP/Honors courses to get into somewhere good. The only thing those classes really do for you is 'prepare' you into the type of mindset they think might be useful in higher education. I only took like three AP classes in my entire high school career and I still got into Boston U, UCLA, and UCSD (decent schools for me)...so you should be all right. Just keep your grades up, do well enough on the SATs, and etc.
