So I'm a sophomore right now, and I'm planning to take Phys C Mech next year, and Phys C E&M senior year. I'm also planning on taking Calc AB next year and Calc BC senior year. I could take BC and then take Multivariable online senior year, but that would be too much work. I don't want to kill myself. But, I know I still would succeed if I took BC next year. I have like 96% in Pre-cal, and I'm great at math (I hope to double major in math and physics), so I feel really weird about being so good in math and only taking Calc AB next year. Especially since some of my friends who are a year behind me in math will be skipping AB, so we will both me in BC senior year. So is it bad to take AB before BC?

Calc BC is literally Calc ABC- you take the same test in May as the AB kids, just with C added. If you think you can handle the extra sections then go for it! But if not, you can still receive college credit for AB. Good luck :)!

What are you talking about? That’s fine. In my school, it was required to take AB before BC. Don’t even worry about it.

some schools do require AB before BC so no it would not look bad at all

Are you kidding me? Don’t bother with AB if you’re going to be a math/physics/related major. If you’re aiming for one of those, you’d just be wasting time taking AB, since AB is the equivalent of one semester of calculus stretched over a year. Take BC and Multivariable, and if that would be “too much work”, I don’t see why you would want to be a math major.

it definitely wouldn’t be a big deal- many schools require calc ab before bc so it would still look great on your application. however, you say that you could succeed at bc and you want to major in math. so it seems like bc might just make the most sense for you- what’s holding you back?

My school requires AB before BC… it’s fine.

@smwhtslghtlydzed: What’s holding back is that I would have literally no life senior year if I took multivariable, because my schedule would be: Multivariable, AP English Lit, AP US Government, AP Physics C: E&M, AP Psychology, and AP Spanish Lang.
Now if I took BC as a senior, it becomes a lot easier, because I heard the Calc BC teacher doesn’t make you do homework first semester if you’ve already taken AB, and second semester will be easier too because I only have to try to get Bs in my classes since I’ll already have applied to colleges.

Oh, and note, if I took multivariable online, it would likely be the same program that a current senior is taking, with Stanford. And I think he’s taking their entire mutlivariable program, which is Calc III, plus diff eq, plus an introduction to linear algebra. That is a lot of work.

bump (I need more advice)
