If I took AP Chem and got a 5, is it still okay if I wanted to NOT take the credit at a college, so that I could get a good review and probably get a good grade in it (good for the GPA)?

No, colleges don’t require you to take credit, but why not
take the credit? It saves you time. And your 5 does not
guarantee you a good grade in the class.

You can certainly retake the class for a better GPA if you want. You don’t have to use the AP credit.

If fact, most premed kids NEVER accept any math&science ap credit in college. You are not alone.
