I have a very unusual situation. I dropped out after 8th grade due to financial problems and mental health issues, but got my GED as soon as I turned 16. I applied for Loyola (New Orleans), and they turned me down but expressed interest in me applying as a transfer studen. I’m now at my local university, UNO, and I was planning to settle, but literally everything about it is lackluster and disappointing. The classes are too easy, and there’s absolutely no resources for my major (pre-law political science). I really want to transfer to Loyola because I feel as if the environment would be much more suitable to my needs, but there’s an issue with that… I also plan on transfering to UMBC or Loyola Maryland for my junior year. When I apply to those schools, will they be offput by the fact that I’ve already transferred once before?
If those easy classes are providing you with easy As, then it would be a regretful idea to transfer before the halfway mark. Law schools do not care whether applicants felt challenged; they care how they performed. They care about the numbers. Lower division students will only need to take a handful of major courses prior to transfer, so the lack of resources in your department should not be too impactful.
It is nice to feel as though we are getting the most out of our education, but sometimes we have to recognize the system for what it is. Better you feel unchallenged for the next few semesters before transfer and have a dream GPA for law school, then you feel challenged with a lesser record.
