Im not sure what is better for her to do apply early or wait and do general at the college of new jersey. she is in love with this school, and i would love for her to get in as well.

If you need any finaid- general is better.

The College of New Jersey is an Early Decision school. An early acceptance is a binding one. If your daughter applies, she agrees to accept an offer of admission immediately and to withdraw any pending applications or acceptances.

Are finances a consideration? If so, her acceptance to college of nj will be the ONLY financial aid package you will be able to review…as all other applications must be withdrawn.

If this is truly your daughter’s number one choice AND she is certain she wants to go there above all other choice…AND finances are not an issue, then she should consider an early decision application.

If she has ANY reservations at all…ANY…wait and apply regular decision.

thank you, if you don’t need finaid should she apply early?

do the chances increase if she applies early? or are they the same?

aammww20 - google “tcnj common data set” and you’ll find the most recent common data set (2010-2011).

In section C1, it shows that 9856 people applied and 4708 people were admitted, for an acceptance rate of 48%. (You have to add up the male and female breaks).

In section C21, it shows that they received 609 early-decision apps and 334 were admitted, for an acceptance rate in early decision of 55%.

Having said that, you don’t know if the “pool” of early decision people is appreciably different in terms of qualification from the regular pool.

If finances aren’t an issue and this is really her first choice, I say go for ED. Both my twins got in ED to their top-choice schools in December and it SO de-stressed the rest of senior year. Over and done!

If there is an early action choice do that as they are not binding.

TCNJ continues to get more popular and more selective.

What are your D’s stats? Is it a reach or a safety school for her? Are you in-state? Are you looking for financial aid or merit aid?

If it is her clear first-choice, I would say to go for for ED, unless there are some special circumstances, for example she had relatively poor grades one year and is on an upward trend, and would like to have another semester of good grades available.

The TCNJ CC forum has a dean who participates, so you could perhaps ask a question there.
