Hello CC. I'm a rising senior currently studying abroad (in an American International School) but I'm originally from New York State. I'm planning to study back home in NY once I graduate in June, 2015. New York University is currently my top choice for my undergraduate studies. From what I can tell, applying Early Decision usually gives you higher chances to get accepted. NYU, however, had a 32% acceptance rate for both regular and early decision. Is it usually like that or should I still apply for Early Decision to NYU since I am 100% for NYU? Thank you for any help.

How is your credential compared with admission stat? Do you need to improve your GPA or test scores? If you are within the range for admission, the school is affordable (based on NPC), and you absolutely want to go, you should apply ED.

My ninth grade grades are pretty bad, but 10th grade and further have been great. I’m taking my first SAT in October, and their ED deadline is November 1st. I really do want to attend NYU. I think I’ll go for ED then…Thank you!

Do you need financial aid? Don’t apply ED to NYU if you need financial aid, unless the difference is really small.

See the above link for guidance counselor’s advising students about Early Decision (ED) vs. Early Action (EA). If you apply ED, you should run the net-price calculator on that school to make sure your family can afford the tuition if accepted. The below is the Early Decision Agreement agreement which you, your parents, and guidance counselor must sign.

Thanks for all the information! I’ll definitely look into that.
