Is it better to have an essay with 2 examples and one counter argument or 2/3 examples to get a 12

Hi everyone! Which sat essay format is better to get a 12 on the essay? 2 supporting examples and one counter argument or just 2 to 3 supporting examples?

I don’t think it is ever good to argue both sides in standardized test essays. You have to pick a side and lean into it.

No worry if I phrased it unclearly. Of course I would argue for one side but my question is that is it better to use 2-3 examples to support that one side OR use 2 examples to support that one side and use another example to make the opposite side sound worse?

@intparent

The second is tricky to pull off well. Just go with 3 examples that support your argument.

Does anyone have a good format for a 3 example essay?

If you have a valid argument, good vocab and good grammar, it is not that hard to get a 12.

The essay I wrote in my 10/3 was considered by myself to be one of the worst I have ever written–and it got a 12. One example pro and two con. Nothing flashy.

Is it better to use two examples and expand on them or 3? @Darude

@ZanZan either is fine if you have good vocab, good logic and good grammar! There is no set version, just practice a lot :slight_smile:

The OP wants an answer, darn it!! And will keep posting until he gets one! Really… there IS NOT A SET ANSWER. You can get a 12 either way, or you can get a much lower score either way.

Honestly, I think that it’s better to just think of several examples beforehand, and then write three supporting paragraphs, as opposed to writing 2 supports and 1 counter-argument. The latter, in my opinion, might be harder to pull off well. Also, from everything that I’ve heard/read about the SAT essay, getting a 12 is easily attainable by writing that three support essay; albeit, I got a 10… Maybe I didn’t write well enough! Hope this helped!! :smiley:
