I intend on transferring eventually to UT Austin's radio-television-film program. I know its very competitive but I am a strong student. I know these stats aren't considered in transfer applications but my SAT score was a 2180 and my uw GPA was a 3.8 (4.2 weighted).

My parents have ofered to pay $5000 a year for college for me. So my question is- is it better to start at community college and get my pre-reqs out of the way for communication and then transfer to Austin or would I have a better chance of getting in if I attend UT dallas and transferred from there.

There is something called automatic admission but I don't qualify because I was in Israel for high school. If i went the community college route I could save up money because its only $2000 a year (including books) and I could save the extra $3000 from my parents plus work. If I went to UTD I'd have to work and I would have no extra money to save for UT Austin...

dilemmas, dilemmas....

I got accepted to UTD and at this point it would be too late to apply to Austin. I just want to know where I should start first- Community college or UTD (eventually I’ll be going to Austin)

Financially, it seems like the choice is clear. I chose to go the community college -> university route myself, and it’s working out beautifully. Money should be the foremost consideration. If you really want the “college experience”, then go for Dallas, but if I were you, I would choose CC.

A lot of factors have to be taken into consideration:

What are you studying?
What is your financial situation like?
Do you want to experience college life?

Community college and university are two different things. Community college is easier and more laid back. University is a lot more challenging and gives you exactly what a college life is all about. Community college is a lot cheaper and will get rid of a lot of GEs and has a possibility of transferring your units to university. So it really depends on you. A lot of people who have the money go directly to university because they want the whole “4-year experience” while others who want to save money go to community college. I’m still in college but in my first few years, I went from uni to community college because of personal issues. Uni for 2 years and community college for a semester and now I’m studying at a different college.
