I am applying Early Decision to Vandy. When I searched up their student body, it said that only 7% of it was Asian. I am Asian btw, and I was wondering if this would be to my advantage.
Thanks.

Yes! Even better if you were Jewish, but . . .

Vandy is not usually on the Asian circuit – in fact no Southern schools are. Their loss! So, ED Vandy and enjoy the ride!

Thanks for the reply! This gives me a boost to my morale lol

Could I get more replies?
Thanks

Went on a tour when we dropped off our son in PA. The tour was for my daughter who is in high school. Beautiful campus. Did get the impression that Vandy is low in the Asian stats so I definitely think it could give you an advantage. BTW my daughter didn’t like Vandy but it gave me a good impression. Very friendly students (preppy, which is what turned my D off), solid academics, beautiful campus, and great weather.

Doesn’t ED give you less of a chance of getting scholarships?

If there is an advantage it is likely to be very small. Asians are roughly 5% of the US population; at 8% of the Vanderbilt population you could argue that Asians are “overrepresented”. You’ll have to get in on merit, I suspect the Asian factor will have little or no impact.

Vanderbilt isn’t on the Asian circuit, so it wouldn’t disadvantage you. But if there’s one private school with some selectivity where Asians are actually advantaged, it’s Villanova (5-7% Asian, too). So, while ED at Vanderbilt might be tempting, try Villanova RD…

ED at Vandy doesn’t lower your chances for any scholarships. However, as with any ED, you may have to enroll, before learning if you’ve been offered any scholarships. That’s why it’s highly recommended that some folks not do ED, if they are concerned about financial aid; but to do RD, so you’ll have the financial aid info handy, before choosing Vandy.

I have an Asian buddy who goes to Vandy. you’ll be fine…just don’t slack off on your academics and application.

HS class of 2011
3 Asians from my HS applied to VU and all got accepted with good FA package
(2400/35, 2380/36 and 2380/35)
(They are NOT attending VU though…)

I say, VU is an Asian friendly school.

@20more: it’s very impressive how they all got those scores xD. Thanks for replies!

Would Vandy look at my application holistically? My school does not inflate our GPA’s, and it has extremely rigorous courses. Also, my ACT score was only a 32 (35 Math, 34 E, 31 R, 28 S). Would they take into account my individual scores?

Thanks Alot
