Is it easy for a girl to get accepted into college as a physics major?

I always thought I would be a business or political science major, but I suddenly gained interest in Physics, and want to take physics classes. Is it easier for me to apply to physics than the other majors I stated because it is mostly guys who are interested in physics?

No, most colleges admit to the College of Arts and Sciences which includes all the majors you mentioned.

If its in the Arts and Sciences school no. If you want to major in engineering then you may have a slight advantage more so at tech schools that normally don’t have many girls applying.

I am taking a common sense approach without specific knowledge. Obviously female students are in high demand for physics majors because of the gender imbalance. However, for schools with many different departments, a college can’t give an advantage to someone claiming she wants to be a physics major. The reason is if it were a decided advantage female students would simply say they want to major in physics and then choose a different major after being admitted. A college can’t force someone to stay in a major.

If you wrote a compelling and believable essay about your passion for physics that might give you an advantage. You would also have to have some kind of EC demonstrating your interest in physics.

No. Students change majors all the time. If it were in a separate college, like engineering, maybe.
