Is it even possible for me to make it into UC Berkeley/ Cal Poly? :c

Well, I just got my first SAT score back, I made a 1780, I think if I take it again, studying harder this time (I hardly studied for the first one) then I can get about a 2000!

I have a VERY poor GPA at the moment, about 3.14

And am in the 2nd quartile of my class. (Top 50%)

DO I HAVE A CHANCE?

I'm interested in majoring in Psychology, if that says anything. And I'm out of state (Texas), which lowers my chances even more.

If you don't think I can, what are some backup schools in Cali (that are decent) should I apply to?

TO BE MORE SPECIFIC, I WANTED TO GO TO CAL POLY SLO. :)

Unfortunately, your GPA (which is cool because it’s pi) and your SAT I scores aren’t good enough at the moment to have a chance at those schools. I recommend that you retake the SAT for a better chance and you have to take the SAT II’s for UC schools. Some schools that might match your stats would be either the low UC schools or the Cal State schools such as: UC Santa Cruz, UC Riverside, and CSU schools.

Thanks, will do! :smiley: Not sure how to sign up for the SAT II’s though. ;w;

There is no possibility of being accepted at UC Berkeley with your GPA and SAT scores. Cal Poly SLO would be a reach for a California resident with those scores since they are impacted and are generally limiting admission to students who live in SLO County. My son is applying there with scores of m720, cr660 and w580 but is unlikely to be admitted since we live in Sacramento County.

What is your budget? Sign up for SATIIs on the same web site (college board) as or SATI.

@Letmaitre; I figured. That sucks, I really wanted to go to Cal Poly SLO. I’ll still try though! Of course, I’m taking my SAT’s again soon.

@RedRoses; Thanks. I don’t really have one? Not sure, it’s up to my parents really. We’re not doing so hot financially though.

I believe you need a UC GPA of at least 3.4 to apply to a UC 00S.

Here is where can calculate you eligibility index for CSU’s, but SLO and several otters leave higher standards.

<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;

BTW, where you live in California is no longer a factor in admission to SLO and a few others.My son’s profile is instate but similar to the OP’s and while SLO is his first choice, I am not even REMOTELY hopeful.

OP what grade are you in?

@shrink;

Oh really? :c Do they take into account how renowned a school is for their education? Competition is killer in my high school. DX It’s not fair if they don’t take that into account b/c it’s WAY to easy for someone to get a high GPA/rank in a school of slackers. :T

By those standards, I’m doing great, do you happen to know what SLO’s higher standards are though?

I am a junior. And I am scared. :c

Yeah, of course colleges take into account the difficulty and competitiveness of a school; that can work towards your advantage.

Thank goodness. I sure hope so!

ArianneVerbannte, “It’s not fair” if they don’t take that into account…

First thing you need to do for life after HS is lose “its not fair”. Nobody cares if you don’t think it is fair. It’s life.

Lol, I’m fully aware of that, thank you very much.

I was just saying I smell B.S. when I smell it.

lol Arianne, it sounds like you’re new to this college admission process. If you stay on these boards long enough, you’ll begin to think like the admission people. If you don’t mind, what are the EC activities that you are currently in?

Neither of these schools will give you aid. So if your family can not afford them, they are not good targets regardless.

"I was just saying I smell B.S. when I smell it. "

Are you referring to my post? If so, what doesn’t seem right?

With regard to SLO standards, you might be able to find a post with the lowest number of “points” for the admitted student. Here are a few points of reference.

Collegeboard “how do I stack up”.

In my humble opinion, aside from AP classes, it might be hard for big state schools recieving literally hundreds of thousands of applications, to assess school rigor, especially OOS.

Thanks for the info everyone, I’m looking for in state colleges now. P: Unless I can get a fullride from Fresno state. I’ll just stick with Texas atm.
