Who ever said Harvard had to be “fair”? They are a private institution, and can do as they please with their money.

I think it is unfair that you benefit from your parents earning $200k-$300k, and I don’t get a penny of it.

Of course shortcut’s parents are selfish. Look at the values they bestowed on him!

people can’t you see that shortcut is just messing with everyone? nothing better to do than to get people all wound up and upset. He/she is sitting back laughing at all the remarks.

just let this thread die off. such a waste of time

^^ amen to that. high five guitars. what have i been telling ^o)

“I think you might be the only one who thinks this… Housing lotteries (at least in Adams, where I live) are quite contentious! (I agree with your sentiment, though)”

Well we all know what Adams does to people… ;)

Go Adams!!!
We have all the ducks!

think about it this way: what kid doesnt WANT to go to harvard? if they achieve the grades, money shouldnt stop them. if you can afford it, pay out of your pocket.

oh dear, lets not bring this thread back to life. its up to no good. can’t one of the mods close/lock it?

Anybody else get the drift that shortcut knows or is somebody that is a Harvard reject and that they’re still ticked off? Just a thought…

Harvard charges what it does because that is why it is still considered an elite school in today’s culture. It’s calle inflation that has occurred over long periods of time; plus, it took like 350+ years to build Harvard’s reputation up, why disentigrate it by going to your plan? Sure it would seem revolutionary, but many may still frown on it (like people who did pay full sticker-hey, doesn’t everybody love saving money?)

You may not know somebody who had to go to another college (whether it was state school or excellent) because their family was actually dirt poor and the financial aid package didn’t cover the entire tuition. They regret that forever-you have no idea, shortcut!!!

Back to the Mercedes comments that I read. Harvard is a private institution, or company in a sense, and thusly, they do want they want. Mercedes could do the same thing, being private and all, but guess what, they have to BUILD a product to lure people from other automakers. They could give an S500 for free, but how does that make business sense? (although they could if they wanted; they are PRIVATE after all!). Harvard makes money by generous alumni; do current and former Mercedes owners donate to the company? No!!! That’s not smart in a business sense. Also, who said that all Mercedes are expensive when it comes to the family that owns the restaurant that you mentioned earlier? If you buy a station wagon from the 80s or an old S-Class (not the limo one), then it would be cheap and could be bought from that used lot store you spoke of earlier.

Your logic is seriously flawed and you seem inhuman to people who have to give up their dreams for their family’s sake because they got into an excellent school and are “stuck” somewhere else!!!

And I do believe that shortcut created this thread to annoy people and create controversy, but as a debator I had to naturally destroy his frivolous and weak arguement (I love cars, so don’t get me started…!)!! Good day to all sensible and well-intentioned people!

IMO Harvard’s Financial aid is very fair, if not the best in the world. My parents are upper middle class in the housing industry (which is not doing too well right now). I got 42k a year from Harvard. In my personal experience, they are very very understanding.

Ace2209, that’s great for you (congrats on getting in!) and proves how great the FA at Harvard is!!! :)

You guys! Please tell me this is a joke thread! Please!

I don’t think it is a joke but I do think shortcut is a ■■■■■, (someone who posts something on a message board to get a rise out of people).

I kinda think that it’s a joke thread to annoy people…dude’s probably laughing his head off right now!!!

ALL YOU GUYS ARE DOING IS FUELING THE FIRE.

(I know that technically I’m guilty of that right now, since I’m posting, but I’m afraid that if I don’t there will be a dozen more pointless comments like “i hope this is a joke” and “shortcut you are being stupid!” that will keep this thread alive for way longer than it needs to be)

STOP POSTING. Let this thread finally die.

We didn’t start the fire… It was always burning, since the world’s been turning… ♪♪♪♫♫

…fade out…

This thread is now about kittens:

Discuss

awwwwwwwww

Wow… a pack of three. They could last months in the freezer. :)

Just because you are a member of the lucky sperm club (i.e. you were born into a wealthy family), it doesn’t give you the right to deny less fortunate people the same chance. I come from a 250k family, and although 50k/year is no easy number to swallow, it is definitely not fair to hold it against poor families. Seeing as tuition forms roughly 3% of Harvard’s annual endowment, I think it should make education free for all its students.
