Is it helpful demonstrating interest after getting put on the waitlist for UCSB?

Hi everyone,

So, I got waitlisted at UCSB and decided that I should visit the campus just in case I get off the waitlist and have the option to attend. A couple days ago I visited, but rather than sign up for a tour, I decided to take a self-guided one. I’ve known for a while that UCSB considers demonstrated interest, but it recently occurred to me that SB might consider it when deciding who to take off the waitlist in addition to considering it when deciding who to accept initially. Does demonstrating interest after getting put on the waitlist help for UCSB? Thank you!

@ucAdmirer are you sure that UCSB considers demonstrated interest? I’ve never heard that before.

On the UCSB’s common dataset, it states that an applicants interest is considered but since you have opted into the waitlist, I would think that would be sufficient to show your interest. If UCSB had an essay as part of the waitlist opt in, then it would be to your advantage to explain why UCSB is your top choice. You could call admissions to see if they will accept a Letter of Continued Interest (LOCI)?

Ok, thank you for the advice @Gumbymom

I got out on a waitlist as well, and I send them an email every 2 weeks or so, tell them about any concerns, and keep giving them updates about my grade and any other leadership associated news. And I always mention how much I like UCSB. Idk if they take express of interest as a consideration factor, but doing it couldn’t hurt. (Of course unless you’re being annoying)
