My opinion....there IS no ranking of MT programs. If a current student told you it was ranked #3, I'd love to see the list. I don't know of such list. I'd rather hear a student state why he/she likes their program and picked it. As far as the kids being as good as the ones at CCM and CMU....my feeling is that is very true of many of these well regarded programs. There are a lot of very very talented kids out there! There are talented kids at many different BFA programs (and beyond for that matter).

My feeling is that there is no ranking. There are programs that are well regarded with very good reputations. Some are considered "top programs" in this field. I think of it more in terms of "bunches". Syracuse certainly is a known program and well thought of. It is often thought of as one of the very good ones, though I haven't heard it mentioned as a "top" program per se. What matters MOST of all is to pick the program that is best for YOU. Reputation is a factor for many and in that regard, Syracuse has a good reputation.

My own kid liked Syracuse more after she auditioned/visited. It has many plusses and she'd have been happy to have attended. It wasn't her most favorite but surely was one she liked a lot and fit her well. She got in but did not end up attending. I liked what I saw and can think of several things about the program that were appealing to my child. As with anything, there are plusses and minusses and that is part of picking out the right college for you.

As far as talent, it is everywhere. Sometimes people land at one school instead of another by some luck of the draw as to which school wanted that student in a slot in the make up of their class. Afterall, I know someone at UMich and someone at CCM and someone at BOCO who did not get into Syracuse. They obviously are talented. Then I know people at Syracuse who did not get into those very same programs. My own chlid got into Syracuse but not the BFA at Emerson. You have to realize that these results are typical. Not every person is going to get into every program. The talent ends up at many programs. Syracuse has talented students. What is more important is to look into the details of the program and see if it fits what you want in a program. By the same token, you can be assured that this program is well known and has a good reputation overall. Does it really matter if it is not ranked number one? It is still a very good program. Go to the program that best fits you and also weigh into the decision the reputation. Many choose the best program they got into....both best in terms of fit and also in terms of reputation. Both matter.

PS...I will add a few things that were on the appealing side for my daughter with Syracuse....

well balanced program....singing, acting, dance.....she is into all three and the triple threat aspect of the field

current students seemed very happy

the director was great in terms of what he said the day of the audition

dance had some challenge

various performance opportunities, plus Equity theater on premises

semester in London

fall semester of senior year in NYC....new grant/program

opportunities to take liberal arts classes

nice size....20 students in the MT program per year

(location was less appealing....though there is a city)
