Is it just my school?

Or do your schools require you to take reg. versions of classes before AP? I thought the point of the separation was higher level kids can opt into AP and everyone else can take the reg. class. I wont have any chances at AP's until junior year, and even then they're both english classes.

(AP LANG. & COMP./AP AM. LIT.)

I feel I'm at a huge disadvantage and my classes are INCREDIBLY easy which will be a downside for colleges looking at course rigor.

My school did not require you take regular versions of classes before AP, but many schools do it the way your school does.

my school requires honors sciences before the AP, but the way they are taught is really AP chem/ bio/ physics part 1 and 2.

Depends on the AP. I’m in AP Physics C having never taken a Physics class before, and same with AP Psychology.

For bio, chem, Latin, and Spanish, yes. For everything else, no. Unless it’s year-long, in which an honors pre-req is completed as a part of the class.

For us you only have to complete regular/honors duplicates for AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Spanish, AP German, AP French, and AP English Language.

Look on the bright side: Colleges look at how rigorous your courseload is in comparison to what your school offers. Since you’re in normal classes, you put in less effort, and get treated the same as someone who was able to take tougher classes in a different school.

Well… They require Honors or Regular Chemistry, Physics, or Biology before the AP.

They require French 1-4, Spanish 1-4, and Latin 1-4 before the AP. (Only Honors Courses).

We can’t take AP English until senior year. English 1-3 is Honors only.

Can’t take AP Calculus until you have Pre-Cal… Can’t take AP Stats until you’re out of Alg 2.

There are a lot of those requirements… but they all make perfect sense to me. Sometimes you just need an adequate foundation before taking the AP course.

The only class I know of like this at my school is AP Chemistry. You have to take Honors Chem your sophomore year.

At my school you have to take French 1-3 before taking AP French. The same goes for Spanish. We’re also required to take Biology Honors before we can take Biology AP. We can’t take AP English until senior year, and we have to take Pre-Cal Honors before AP Calc.

As for the only other AP class my school offers, AP US History, most people take that when they’re juniors.

I just see people on CC racking up AP’s and if I follow the way to get the most (which is just silly), the most I can get is 6, including senior year.

Seems to me that if you want to, you could take AP’s whenever you felt like it.

Thanks for helping me release its not that bad.

eh same at my school. It’s almost imposible for anyone to graduate with more than 8 APs and last year’s validictorian only took 4.
