One of my passions is robotics. However, I was only able to do high school robotics (FRC) until sophomore year because of the ridiculous time commitment that began weighing me down. I have mentioned this in the additional comments section, and still am not trying to make it sound like an excuse. I feel like i would be able to write a pretty good "Describe your world..." short answer with this, but I just don't want the "Wait, he stopped after sophomore year, but he's writing about this?" reaction. Would it be okay to write about something I stopped mid way through high school?

I won’t pass judgement on whether it’s “OK” or not, but I will tell you that I wrote one of my essays (EA) on quitting a major EC because it was boring and I didn’t like it, after 8+ years and some state-level awards.

As long as you’re honest, you’ll be fine. Then again, maybe I shouldn’t be passing out advice until after 12/14…

well! it’s refreshing to know that I’m not the only one! I have stopped or not done ECs because they weren’t fun and I couldn’t really think of why I was or would do them. Examples at our school: math team (I did it but didn’t really see the point in doing all those competitions. So I stopped.) mock trial/debate (which have essentially become a magnet for those looking to purely up their college apps, and there’s “politics” involved as to who gets officer positions and such. Also, I didn’t think i would enjoy it. I’m just not attracted to competitive debate or the justice system.)

With regards to the essay, I’ll hold off on it for now. I think it’ll be fine, but I just want to make sure. I know that honesty is good on college apps, so… GL to your MIT EA decision, btw.

You say that you have only been able to high school robotics for a truncated period of time. Are you on any other robotics teams? Do you have any other robotics experience that you can mention?
