About the 100-word essay about possible major

I know this is kinda syupid question but would it be OK if I write about 2 Departments and explain how they suit my interest in Robotics. I am talking about MechE (2) and EECS (6)

Sure, why not. Go for it.

I wrote about two departments... I don't think they'll mind

thank you guys

i wrote about the biology and chem departments

Heck, I think I mentioned six departments in mine. That essay is important for two reasons:

1) Puts your activities in context
2) Makes sure that you have interests. It's not a problem that you don't know which of your interests you want to pursue, it is a problem if you flat out have NO idea what you'd want to do.

First off, the question wasn't technically about your possible major (even though that was probably what was intended), but about which department or program appeals to you.

So I wrote about the UROP. Troody got a mention too. I love robotics.

And it did put my activities in context, so I'm good.

I also love robotics but I have not done anything in this area. I wish I had the opportunity, but here in Bulgaria there is a limited number of extracurricular activities, especially such requiring special instruments (except a blackboard and a chalk :)
I just have interest.

I wrote about Philosophy/Linguistics. Noam Chomsky is my hero, lol.

Noam Chomsky doesn't like teaching, I hear. :(. I know, it makes me sad too, I love linguistics. Apparantly he only teaches one grad course every three years or so, and even then just to fulfil the tenured professor teaching requirements (which he's technically not, but no one calls him on it).

Again, this is hearsay from current students. Can anyone qualify this?

It wouldn't suprise me. But it doesn't stop me from wanting to study semiotics and semantics and such.

At the moment, Chomsky is only teaching two graduate classes. But most grad classes at MIT are grad in name only -- undergrads can usually take them if they're brave enough to go ask the instructor if they can take them.
