Is it Over?! Suffering from Depression please help

Hey guys I really screwed up. I don't know what to do. I'm on the verge of Breakdown.

Freshman Grades- Got one B+ in English Honors one semester, others all A/A-
Academic Courses: alg 2, History, Biology, chemistry (summer), English Honors

Sophomore Grades- Got B+ each semester in English Honors. Others All As
Academic courses: Precalc, Japanese 2, AP biology, English Honors

Junior grades- First semester
IB math Hl- B+
IB chem HL- B+
physics- B+ (college prep only!!! school does not offer higher level)
IB history HL and English HL- A and A-
Tok- A
Japanese SL- A-

Test scores
Biology- 800 and 5
Chemistry- 800 and 5 frustrating because I can't get an A in IB chem :(
Chinese- 800 and 5
SAT
first time- 2010 planning to retake in january. will retake again until 2250+

Right now I am at the end of first semester Junior. I transferred school from a california school to international school for junior year. I have so many B's i don't know what to do. I used to aim for stanford but now i don't even know whether I can get to Berkeley, SD, UCLA, USC. I was overwhelmed with the amount of academic courses and that I have three math oriented courses to do for homework each night. I'm doing diploma but I am afraid that this GPA is going to really effect my college chances. I was thinking of studying Biomedical/Chemical engineering but still open to other fields like business. I set really high standards for myself which is why it's so hard to accept that I got 3 B's in one semester regardless that they are B+'s

As for EC's- NOT IMPRESSIVE
Sophomore year- club president(founded), section leader orchestra (2 years), mock trial ( no awards)
Junior year- Soccer, mun, String Ensemble ( there's very little EC selections and all the leadership position is pretty much taken. I am going to try to create a club.)

HYPMSC - Hi! It’s alright, calm down. Are you feeling depressed because of perfectionism? These grades? Listen to me, these grades are not bad at all. You are taking a hard course load and you should feel very proud of your grades. No one can be perfect…you are fantastic. No, I am not trying to sugar coat anything.

Now, your subject tests/AP scores are very impressive. So is that SAT for the first time. What is the worries about these other schools? From what I can see, you are a good match for all the schools you listed except Stanford. But you know what? No one is a good match for Stanford. There are a TON of highly qualified people who will be rejected simply because there isn’t the spots for them.

I’m going to try and give you some advice - don’t let yourself get depressed from this. I can tell by the way you have worded some of the things in your post that you are very upset over this and are beating yourself up. The BEST grades you can get for yourself are done when you are happy, positive, and enjoying life. You are taking 3 college courses - give yourself some credit. I know it might be hard but work on the happiness level and perhaps you might see a jump in the grades. Because making yourself upset over this isn’t going to make anything better - you or your grades. Depression can be a slippery slope, don’t let yourself fall down. :-)

wut?

Let me get this straight…You’re doing a diploma…Diploma what? IB Diploma? If you’re doing the IB diploma warn your school that they must offer a legit Physics subject! Or else your school will be disqualified…

Anyways.

What is your B+ in terms of IB grades? 6? imho a 6 for Math HL is already awesome. 7 will be better, of course, but 6 is already not bad. 5 is fine, could use some work, but definitely not the Apocalypse.

I definitely recommend you to start a club if all the leadership positions are taken.

Good luck!

If your school is very rigorous, your class rank will hopefully give context into your app. What is your rank? For the UCs, look up a GPA calculator and calculate your UC GPA.

lost9999 and skyrior- Thanks a lot you guys are awesome. I needed to talk to someone and get this off my shoulders. I also talked to the principal and my friends. After all that I realize that grades really aren’t everything and that I just need to suck it up and keep going if I really want to succeed. Again thanks, you guys made me feel a lot better by pointing out the bright side.

@HYPMSC

Don’t worry about your grades too much! You’re only a junior right now. There’s still so much time to improve! Besides, getting two 800 in SAT II and 2010 is really awesome already.

Now, some more advice:

DO NOT take the SAT more than three times. Be very careful and check whether your dream schools have Score Choice. Be very careful since you will have to submit all scores if they don’t have Score Choice. I recommend you taking the easy June SAT.

Do stuff outside school. Find opportunities. Maybe find some friends and organize a camp for the students? Intern at a hospital? You don’t have too much time left so hurry!

thanks skyrior- i will definitely be interning for a lab in the hospital soon. Thanks for the advice.

@Amaranthine
I am actually doing poorly considering that there are people who have the same courses as me and getting A’s. I think I am actually ranked very low as of now because I have three B’s. But nevertheless now that I know what to expect, I will try to get straight A’s next semester. Thanks for the advice guys, i really appreciate it.

Berkeley, LA, and USC are looking to become high match/low reach for you, Your scores are very good(especially if you get 2250+) Unfortunately having high test scores rarely makes up for low(ish) grades. There are plenty of excellent colleges and universities that would take you, try expanding the range of UCs you’re looking into(add UCI, UCDavis, etc) What is your unweighted GPA?
