is it possible for a freshman to have a single dorm

^title. and what is the difference between these super singles and regular singles? would a freshman be able to have one of those?

Note: My parents are nagging me to no end that they don't want me to have a roommate...please tell me that its not possible to not have one freshman year.

its possible, a super single in the same size as a double room except only one person rooms there. A regular single is a single room (its smaller than double rooms because there is only one person). Two reasons why its a bad idea to have either type of single room:

1) its so much more fun and interesting to have a roommate and learn about how other people live and act. A great life skill

2) A single room is more expensive generally than a double room, especially the super single rooms because those are meant for two people.

i know this sounds weird, but would it be possible to say that i would prefer a single or super single room but get a double room?

If they run out of single rooms, yes. :P

okay this may sound “noob” ish but how does getting your first choice dorm work?
do people who commit to emory like today get a better chance than someone who commits tomorrow (e.g.)?

Yes Crunkk. Room decisions and priorities are based on a first come first serve.

~ Theos

“first come first serve”???

Geez, I have not received any housing packet/info. from emory yet?? what should i do??

did anyone else already get the housing packet in mail??

It’s on the internetz, silly.

Housing is not first come first serve for any class. For freshmen, housing is guaranteed and assigned randomly (except for Scholars and athletes). As long as you apply before the deadline, you will be assigned housing at the same time as all other freshmen. For all upperclassmen, you can pick your room, but decision order is assigned based on a lottery.

You can sign up at myhousing.emory.edu

thanks, dgebll!! ha ha, scholar and athletes surely are special!!

however, it gets confusing :)!
i just looked a previous mail (1 month ago) from emory, one sheet says the housing info shall be sent in early april…but i still haven’t got anything yet…i guess i just have to do it on myhousing.emory.edu…

still, i wonder why i don’t receive the housing stuff :(

I haven’t received anything in the mail either, don’t worry.

At the admitted students session today, they indicated they receive the housing requests by late May, run the matches during the last week of May and send assignments the first week of June.

I know his post is 3 years later than the previous post, but I am wondering what the special housing circumstances are for scholars and athletes?

Scholars get the earliest housing selections times, but only within their class, so they can pull themselves and their friends (who may or may not be scholars) into the same dorm/apartment. And this only applies starting your sophomore year since incoming freshmen can’t explicitly choose their specific dorm/room, but only write essays to give them a high chance at getting into the new dorms.

Athletes may get to move in earlier or move out later from their dorms if they need to stay longer for an event or something, but other than that they usually don’t get special treatment. I have however heard a few athletes getting arranged by their coaches for free housing off-campus but don’t know too much about that…
