Is it possible for a HS student to intern at a local congressional office?

Sophomore in HS right now and I have an interest in law/government/politics field. I would like to intern at a congressmans’ local district office. I know i should probably contact the office but still, would it be strange for a HS student to be interning there? If you have worked at a local district office, how was it like? Is it common for a young person to be there?

No, you can find opportunities for high school students in local congressional offices. HS students are often involved in distributing campaign materials, liking or retweeting candidate info on social media, etc. You might consider asking about volunteer opportunities rather than requesting an internship, which might mean something different. This is a good time to be involved.

You can definitely volunteer, but likely would not be given a paid position. My D is a rising junior and she is working for a political party this summer, registering voters, recruiting volunteers, etc. It’s been very good experience for her.

^^ To clarify, the first word “No” in my response was an answer to the question of whether it would be strange for high school students to work there. Not strange.
