Is it possible for a Theater/Acting Major to double major with Music Education?

Amidst the current pandemic and all the free time I suddenly have on my hands, I’ve been doing more thinking about college and what I want to major in. I am currently a junior in high school, and since 7th/8th grade I have been passionate about 2 things: music and theatre. Since my freshman year, I’ve known I wanted to do Music Education and Theatre in college, but I don’t know how possible it is for me to do both.

Would it be possible to do both? Or should I minor in music and major in acting/theater? Any words of advice are welcome.

Yes, for sure! You just need to pick the right school - first look for schools with good BA programs in Music Education as those are rarer than BA Theatre or Drama. As long as you stay with a BA programs it’s quite doable to double major. If you have the chance to take APs your senior year, do so - those really help to get Gen Ed credits completed which gives you more room in your schedule for your major classes.

@Eurydice2021 take a look at Wagner College. They don’t have that exactly but they have a Dual Major in Music and Early Childhood Education and a Dual Major in Theatre and Childhood Education and they have minors in Theatre , Music and educational studies. I am sure there are several school that would work for you. This just came to mind. This site will come in very handy for you. BEest of luck.

I also found out my daughter’s friend attends university of Tampa where she is getting her BM in Music Ed and her BA in Theatre

Oh my goodness, thank you so much! You’re a life saver!
