Is it possible to be accepted by MIT when your education has been delayed by circumstances?

Due to medical issues where I was mistreated by doctors, my education was delayed. I’m 21 now – is that too old for MIT to accept me? I haven’t been able to find information on how MIT treats older students.

I wouldn’t think so if your academics and test scores are strong. However, realize that MIT is extremely selective and no one is guaranteed to be admitted no matter how strong the application. You might want to also apply to schools that have the same kind of feel as MIT but aren’t as selective as a backup. The AITU schools of which, my university, Illinois Tech is one, are also very good for engineering.

Of course. Was just a bit worried since MIT doesn’t say much on older students.

MIT considers all students when they are ready to apply. For some applicants that is earlier than the norm (the youngest competitive applicant I have interviewed has been 13). For other applicants that is later than the norm (last year a 27 year old was interviewed in my region). MIT will not consider for freshman admission an older applicant who has previously enrolled in a degree granting program at another institution (they will have to apply as a transfer). Other than that, you should be fine.
