I am not too informed on how i-banks recruit but I do know that they go on college campuses like HYPSM. I would like to know if there is any chance of becoming an i-banker without going to a top 20 school?

bump

Outside of a Top 20 school might make it a bit more difficult but its definitely still possible. What a lot of people one these forums fail to realize is that the jobs are just really dam competitive, if you want a great ibanking job you gotta be at the top of your class with great leadership experience and campus involvement. If you do that Im sure something will work out for you.

While it may not be universal, most career-track investment bankers are hired out of business school. The initials in your post suggest you’re not talking about business schools (unless the “P” is for Penn, but then it really should’ve been a “W”). Many investment bankers were in analyst programs for two years between college and business school, but that’s not a requirement.

Analyst programs are what I was referring to. Is it possible to get into one without going to a high end undergrad school? Or is it more gpa oriented?

Hmm. My information is kind of spotty and non-current. If you’re lucky, someone with the answer will pop in. I think school plays a pretty big role, as it does in other similar hiring. I’d be surprised if the percentage that’s HYPSM is anywhere close to 100%, though.

Prestige matters a lot in banking. You don’t necessarily have to go to HYPMS but top state schools are the lowest you can go. For Example, there are a lot of analysts on Wall Street from UMich and U Virginia. Take my words with a grain of salt because i am still in high school myself but have did a lot of research.
