Is it possible to get 4/5 on AP Lit test after getting 3 on AP Lang?

I don't want to take the AP Lit test because it won't be worth credit for college for me unless I get a 4/5. How much harder is the AP Lit test?

I would like to know this, the only AP test I got a 3 in. :stuck_out_tongue: How would one best prepare for the MC portion, it’s where I lose most of my points.

The AP Lit test is definitely harder than the Lang test…the Lang test isn’t really a huge challenge…but the Lit one is based heavily on in class readings and understanding, so it would be harder if not significantly harder.

Doesn’t that apply for all AP tests, not just Lit?

To be honest, there’s no real way to prepare for the AP Lit test; I think it takes some sort of natural ability to be able to do well on it.

For example: in my class last year (we take it in 11th grade, if at all, at our school,) two out of 20 of us got 5s–and neither of us were “English people.” My friends who loved English found the test ridiculous, as more is required in the way of inferring and reading between the lines than simply enjoying poetry or prose. By the end of the year, our class had read a whopping total of 3 books and done one practice MC test (our teacher SUCKS,) and most of the kids got 3s or below.

Basically what I’m trying to say is that AP Lit is (obviously) not about cramming info into your head like a lot of other APs. You have to be a naturally good writer (or willing to spend hours and hours practicing, I guess…) and be naturally good at reading and dissecting texts (even if you HATE the subject, like I do!) If you want to try something to prepare, I’d recommend just taking as many MC practice tests as possible–that’s the only thing that I can think of to help!

I’m in lang this year, and I can tell you that the Lit exam is MUCH harder, but much more interesting. Really, though, they’re TOTALLY different tests; from what I’ve seen, Lit is more about the ability to dissect pieces, identify lit. techniques, and write smooth and eloquent *argument/I while Lang is about the ability to superficially understand a text and crank out rough essays about…well…nothing (it seems to me like the SAT CR/Essay on steroids–all the irrelevancy included!) If you’re the type of kid who this stuff clicks for, then go for it, you can easily pull off a 5!

Egh…looking back on that post, it’s kind of rambling…let me know if you have any questions

No, I get what you mean. I don’t think I’ll be taking the AP Lit test. Thanks for all your input!

I took AP Lit as an 11th grader as well, and found it to be challenging. I’m pretty sure the only thing that saved me on the AP exam was my ability to guess exceptionally well. I’m not an English person by any stretch of the imagination, but I do write well. So, I suppose I could’ve still pulled a 3 or 4 if I bombed the multiple choice. I was one of 2 (out of almost 60) to get a 5 last year, which I’m partially attributing to good luck. I find AP Lang to be significantly easier, and I’m glad it’s my senior year AP English class, because having Lit this year would have made me want to shoot myself.

lit is pretty different that lang
