Is it possible to get accepted to Stanford (social sciences) with a low GRE?

Hi everyone,
I am an international student planning to apply to a few PhD programs in the US this coming fall. I’ve been studying for the GRE for a couple months now but my scores aren’t promising so far. I will be taking the next couple of months to study more regularly but if I’m being honest, the chance of attaining an above average score isn’t high. I have several learning disabilities which makes standardized tests extremely difficult for me and even with some accommodations, it’s not looking good.

Therefore, I’m wondering if it’s possible to get accepted to grad school (specifically Stanford, social sciences or other top schools) with a low GRE score? Has that ever happened to anyone? I think my stats are pretty decent aside from a potentially low GRE score:

  • 3.8 GPA in my B.A (Honors program). Recieved awards for leadership qualities and extra curricular involvement.
  • 4.0 GPA, Summa Cum Laude & Valedictorian in my M.A. Recieved additional awards and honors for academic excellency.
  • Research experience in my field (no publications yet, might be one later this year)
  • Professional work experience (2 years)
  • Good recommendations from professors (aren't well known worldwide, but I've worked closely with them so they know me well)

Think I have a shot? Would love to hear from your experience. The last round of GRE practice questions I did really discouraged me and I don’t want to spend so much money on the test and applications if there’s absolutely no chance of being accepted with a low GRE.

Thank you so much for your time, everyone!

Sincerely,
MA
