At the information session they said they first evaluate applicants for the school and then the business school. But I was just wondering if that happens often that people get admitted into the university but not the business school. I am wondering if I should risk applying to the business school - my grades/scores are likely good enough for the University but I don’t have much business experience and I would hate for that to keep me out of the school entirely. TIA
Yes, that is what they do. Applications are first reviewed for admission into the University, then they are reviewed for admission into the various Limited Enrollment Programs (LEPs) such as Business, Engineering, etc. LEPs typically get more applicants than they can accommodate.
Every year there are students admitted to the University, but not the LEP they wanted. If they attend, they can pursue a internal transfer into a LEP.
They will accept you regardless of your major preference if you meet criteria. Once accepted to the school, they then transfer your application to your major preference. Putting down business or any other major will not impact your acceptance to UMD and there is no risk. If not put into business, you will just have to apply to the LEP when you have enough credits
