I am currently in my second semester at the Fashion Institute of Technology as a fashion business management major. Lately I’ve been second-guessing myself and reevaluating my life goals (which I know is something I should have analyzed more throughly before going to FIT). However, I do not think it is too late to change my mind. Granted, FIT is a specialized school and many of the credits–if not all–will not be transferable to most schools, but I would not mind “losing” one year and starting fresh. It might be too much of a long shot, but I am looking into transferring to NYU possibly under an International Relations major. I am just wondering if this transfer process is even possible? I know that for other schools I must have a certain number of credits transferrable to even be considered. So, can I still apply from FIT to NYU even though my credits will most likely not transfer (essentially be considered a freshman)?
You won’t be considered a freshman if you have a year under your belt. You would be a transfer. Why would n’t it be possible. Schools will accept students who they think will do well in their school but may not accept all or any of the previous school’s credits. It could mean, as you mention, spending an extra year in school. NYU is very expensive so hopefully finances are not an issue for you.
