Assuming I graduated in the top of my class (top 10%), is there a specific major that would make it easier for me to go to consulting from?
Is it even possible, any stories?
Any major can go into consulting. You can be in psych, history, stats, etc. However, the majors that are highest in demand are accounting and finance. But like I said, any major can go into accounting. If you choose a major outside of the big 2 though, just make sure you get some consulting internships or experience. Good luck
An information systems major will help you with firms like Accenture, Deloitte, KPMG, etc.
Many students graduate with Finance degrees and go into consulting. Jobs are very competitive for recent grads. You must be at the top of your class as these companies are looking for the brightest and most polished. The big four all recrute from Bentley.
@ambivalence101 Hi, I’m attending Bentley in the fall as a freshmen. I declared my major as Accounting but I am thinking about changing it to Corporate Finance and Accounting after freshman year. Will Corporate Finance and Accounting help me getting into a consulting firm? Or should I stick to accounting?
@Skylar299 Personally I’d go with Corporate Finance and Accounting as you get the best of both worlds, but you also can’t go wrong as an accounting major since even if you don’t make it into consulting, you have a trade that pays well. Also, if you have the time or inclination, consider a minor in compsci or something related such as management info. systems (or self teach if you can’t minor). A tech background is in high demand for consulting as it can cut costs in training and puts you ahead of the pack.
