Well i am looking at colleges out of state and i found one i liked but after doing research i found out it was a commuter college. I like the school and if i were to go i would have to live on campus but if everyones going home at the end of the day would a commuter college be any fun?

How many people total live on campus?
Does the list of clubs/activities/sports have something to interest you?

Visit before attending, if possible.

How’s the surrounding community?

Clubs/intramurals/extracurricular outlets?

1) You won’t be the only one living on campus, so you certainly will be able to find other people to do things with if you make any kind of effort at all. Just because the residential community is small, doesn’t mean that it can’t be a really good one.

2) You also should make an effort to develop friendships with commuting students. Chances are that some of them will be delighted to ask you home for dinner where their mom will be impressed that you’ve come from so far away and maybe will even let you do your laundry there for free. Also, chances are that some of them will be delighted to have a good friend on campus who will let them occasionally take a nap in their room between classes.

Go visit the place. Talk to folks who live on campus, and talk to commuters. See what you think.

You need to make a bit more of an effort to be involved in clubs/activities/sports at a commuter school, to find friends. In my opinion, if there are hundreds of people living on campus, if you make an effort, you’ll be fine living on campus, even if those hundreds of people make up only 10% of the enrollment at that school.
