I scored a 2030 on the SAT (680 CR, 610 M, 740 W) as a junior. I decided to take the ACT the weekend after I graduated high school so I would have it if I want to transfer. I only scored a 28.
English: 33
Reading: 29
Math: 25
Science: 25
I have heard that it is easier to raise ACT than SAT scores. Since the SAT has changed, I am not sure I want to take it again. Also, I took the ACT with writing and I am confident I did well on that portion. PLEASE offer any advice or direct me to helpful threads. I want to score in the 31-33 range.
My D went from a 30C to a 34C with mostly self-prep using a watered down version of the Xiggi method (sp?) and some determination to practice consistently. I hired a private tutor for her only twice when she hit a math concept she just couldn’t push through.
Yes. My three boys each raised theirs. S1 went from composite 29 to 34 after three tries and I used the new data to leverage more merit aid. It cost us a couple of practice books and we netted $40,000. S3 had a bad day once but tried again and went from 25 to 35 in reading. Makes me so angry that our guidance department instructs parents that once is plenty. Keep at it with those practice guidebooks!
My D went from 33 to 35. Just did some practice from one prep book. It meant the difference between one year tuition scholarship and a four year scholarship at her school of choice. Definitely doable.
Yes I’ve done it. I started with a 28 and now I’m at a 33. Just take every practice test you can and focus on what you did wrong. You can probably improve a lot in math so just brush up on the content there. Check out your math subscores to see what troubles you most.
If that was your first sitting, you can easily go higher. Practice a lot - especially the questions you got incorrect. You will do really well your second sitting. Best of luck!
Yes, I went from 27c in Junior year to 34c in senior year October test, focus on science a lot, that was my lowest score. once I pulled that up I was able to do well
@GMKoon I can’t speak about the old SAT, but from what I understand the new SAT should be fairly easy to increase score. In my opinion, neither test is “easier” nor “harder” to increase points. It all depends on how hard you work master content
I’m really struggling too :(. So far I’ve taken the ACT 4 times (23, 25, 27, 26). On the June 11th test I went down. I used to just focus on reading rules and strategies instead of practicing test. I am going to start taking more tests and hopefully I can improve to at least a 32 in September.
I feel your pain. I’m going to take it one last time in September. I hope I get at least a 33 but can settle with a 32. After two attempts, my highest composite is 29, and my superscore is 30 (thanks to a lucky 35 in Science).
