My son has been practicing for the new redesigned 2016 SAT Essay. He will take it in March. Does anyone know how many pages are supplied? Is it possible to run out of room? His practice essays have been about 4 written pages.
I am also wondering about this as well.
The general consensus for the Old SAT had been that length was (for the most part, not always) directly proportional to score, and you wanted to fill out all of the 2 blank pages provided.
How many pages are provided for the new SAT? Test is in a few days, so it’d be great if someone knew!
I printed one of the longer SAT sample essays from the College Board site and quickly counted the words- 531. I then counted the words on one of my son’s practice essays- 516. That was about 3 1/2 front sides of college ruled notebook paper. My son’s handwriting is normally very very small- to the point where it’s hard to read. For his practice essays, I asked him to write much bigger. If he gets there Saturday and there are 4-5 pages, he will be fine with the bigger handwriting. If it’s 3-4 pages, he may have to make some adjustments. I hope it’s not just 2 pages, if so, he’s been practicing this thing all wrong.
@rb681000 The following site says 3 pages:

However I haven’t been able to find a first-hand source from CB’s site to confirm. Perhaps you or someone else can verify.
Just FYI, my essay had 4 blank (scored) pages + unscored planning page. (Which is only useful to those taking it at later dates).
