Is it possible to switch colleges in UCR

I am an incoming undergraduate freshman to UCR. My situation right now is that I really want to get into Bourns College of Engineering for computer science, but the problem is that I got rejected by them and put into CHASS due to my poor high school grades. My question is that is it still possible to get into Bourns from where I'm currently standing whether through college grades or anything.

BCOE is strict on who they admit to their majors. You can talk to your current academic advisor and explain your situation but he/she will most likely tell you that you’ll have to get good grades your first couple quarters or you will be directed to BCOE advisors. It is possible to switch to BCOE but it will take some hard work. Good luck!

During the school year you can contact BCOE advisors. More info here: ([BCOE Student Affairs: Changing to a BCOE major](Major Changes | Engineering Student Affairs))
BCoE Academic Advisors are available by appointment during weeks 3 – 10 each quarter to advise non-BCoE students interested in changing to a BCoE major. To schedule an appointment visit the BCoE Office of Student Academic Affairs located at Bourns A159C. Please be sure to view the BCoE major change requirements before you meet with an academic advisor.

And here are Computer Science major requirements:

I’m pretty sure you can, but to make sure you would have to talk with your academic advisor, but chass is a great college! the faculty is extremely helpful and friendly! you might want to look on some chass majors, they’re great! but if you’re indeed set on computer science, then goodluck to you & please, please do not get distracted! take 16 units every quarter, (according to my advisor, you need 16 units every quarter in order to graduate on four years), something i did not do! i had a horrible first yr! i got distracted, lazy, homesick, so yeahh it all added to a failed freshman yr :frowning: but not really since i will be a sophomore this upcoming fall, but anyways! please do your best, take advantage of your free time to study! not to slack off! something i wish i could’ve done! i wish you a VERY successful freshman yr & goodluck with changing to BOURNS! :D

To transfer into BCOE as a CS major, first you need satisfactory completion of CS 10, CS 12, MATH 9A.

Satisfactory completion of the prerequisite courses is interpreted as an average GPA of 2.5 or higher in the above listed courses (2.7 for CS and Business Informatics), with no grade below C-. A 2.0 GPA in all other courses required for the major, with no grade below C-, is also required.

Try taking CS10 and 12 first and see if you still like it. And if you still do, apply for major change petition at A159C
