Is it possible to transfer to Harvard/Yale/Columbia?

I have a 3.8-4.0 at George Washington University in an honors type program and I am considering applying to those schools for sophomore year. I have never applied, but I almost applied ED to Columbia last year. PoliSci-History-Philosophy are my potential concentrations.

In high school I had a 3.85 GPA at a top prep school that sends loads of kids to these schools each year.

SAT 790M, 760V, 620W <---such BS, I was Editor of HS Paper

SATII: 760 M2C, 730 USH, 720 LIT

Do these stats make any of these schools realistic? Any input is appreciated, especially if you attend and have transferred, or know people who have transferred in the past. Thanks so much.

It's possible, but VERY, VERY, VERY difficult. Transfer acceptance rates in the Ivy League hover around 5 percent.

ah i see...are my statistics and situation consistent with most applicants?

you are good. write solid essays, have specific reasons, and add some more schools if you want a better chance at transfer.

thanks guys, anyone else?

I'm applying to yale transfer! =)!
My reccs are gonna be incredibly vague though...
What do i do about this? I mean honestly, you can't really know your professors when he's on campus like twice a week and teaches a 200+ppl intro class.

Do exactly as colegePLEASE says. Yes, it is possible for you. Yes, I have known people who successfully transferred to such schools.

Good luck.

so essays/recs are more important?

i think i have narrowed down the schools to which i am applying to Georgetown and Columbia. i have a priority to transfer to GU b/c I was extended waitlisted there. its semiguaranteed, assuming i maintain a 3.7 (i have near a 4.0). these things considered, should i apply to more schools?

You should apply to more schools based off of what the reasons you are transferring. If you're mostly happy with your current institution then applying to only a few "dream" schools would be quite workable. However, if you really dislike GWU, I would add a few colleges to your list so your given a better chance of getting in somewhere. Also, your stats are very good, but as everyone else said, your recs and essays will be the determining factor. (EC's will also play a factor).

A 3.94 will probably help I'm assuming. Working on those essays now...anyone else transferring in? I'm curious what the pool looks like...

does anyone know if GWU is considered remotely legitimate among the ivies, etc? will a high GPA (3.94) be taken seriously?
