Hi, I am currently a rising sophomore attending a private university. I did extremely terrible in highschool (2.7 gpa) and I currently have a 3.03 gpa in college, hoping to bring it up to a 3.38 by next semester. My ACT score was a 22 (I am currently planning on retaking my ACTs and aiming for higher) , it was a blessing I even got into a university. I had made the wrong friends in high school and almost never went to class… I also did extremely terrible my first semester of freshman year (2.46 GPA), no excuses but I truly was lost my first semester, but my second semester I got a 3.51 GPA. I am currently aiming for a 4.0 GPA this coming semester which seems impossible with my brain but if I do, my GPA raises to a 3.38. Do any GOOD universities in the east coast accept this when transferring? I am currently on the pre-med track. My sister is an ivy league alum and I was wondering if I apply to the university she graduated from, would my chances be higher? Would it be a total waste even applying? I have almost no extracurricular and I am planning on enrolling in a medical assistant course to show some skill when applying to transfer. Should I even bother applying? I wanted to apply to maybe Cornell University or Columbia University and the college my sister went to with my 3.38 GPA…but if it seems impossible I won’t even bother. I know it’s hard to say, and I know that no one is part of college admissions and that everyones case is different, but does anyone have any advice to maybe bring up my chances or a miracle story that can inspire me?
A 3.0 is not a terrible gpa. You can transfer to a lot of schools, but not to an Ivy school.
Don’t retake the ACT. Most schools won’t accept test scores taken after you start college.
