From the beginning of my work day to the end (travel, lunch and work) my day is 12 hours work related 4 to 5 days a week. This past week after work, I've been studying math to do well on a placement exam for the school I am applying to. I've had a hard time trying to balance studying with getting enough rest in and it's only been a week. Has anyone found a way to balance full time work with full time school?

Why are you working so much? There is a positive reason why student loans exist.

I want to pay for school out of pocket. Also I have been out of high school for 10+ years. I work for a living because I have to.

I balanced school full time and work full time. However, you’re talking about possibly 60 hours (12 hours x 5 days) out of your schedule- that is a HUGE chunk. That is 20 hours more than a full time schedule. For me, it was less than an hour commute and I had paid lunch so I still had plenty of time to do work and stuff when I got home. It will be almost impossible to balance that with a full time schedule. Something will have to give- either reduce your hours or don’t go to school full time.

I don’t think you’ll be able to go to school full time, no. Part time (as in one MW and one T/TH class a week should be okay).

I’ve been able to balance FT work+school but my work days were strictly 8 hours, not 12. I found it very tiring just to go to school working full time hours, as my entire day I was awake 7am-12am with no naps (but I had 18 credits during this semester, the max courseload). I had so much coffee this semester, it was terrible lol.

With that said,'I think it is possible with your 12 hour workdays if you took a few online classes and kept to the minimum amount of credits or possibly even just part time as another user suggested.

Okay so perhaps trying full time at school is taking on too much.

I admire your desire to pay for school yourself, but it’s just not possible nowadays. If you want to be a student full time, you really shouldn’t work much more than 20 hours a week. Hell, I’m working 7 and I’m worried about having enough time for socialization and schoolwork.
