Hello CC-ers ....

I am a freshman in a community college right now . Intended major is business econ/econ . Planning to get into TAP for UCLA . Currently facing a huge dilemma on my plan to transfer out on time ( 2 years ) . I'd went through several thread saying how incompletion of pre-req and IGETC after fall semester could drag my chances down to transfer to a top UC like UCLA or UCB ? My counselor said that i have till spring to complete all my pre-req and IGETC but I am not too sure now . Please help ?

Finish your IGETC + Pre-requisites without jeopardizing your GPA

Yes , good advice but i am still unclear about the chances being reduced if i complete my pre-req and IGETC by spring sem for Top Tier UC

Ideally, they want to see that you’ve completed all of your pre-reqs and IGETC by the end of the fall semester before you transfer. If you can’t do that try to finish them by the following spring, but since they don’t see those grades until after they’ve made a decision on your admission status it really doesn’t factor into anything. The fact that you have planned courses in the spring that will complete your pre-reqs if you pass isn’t going to help or hurt you. The fact is they don’t know what your grades are going to be for that spring so they want to see that everything’s completed for Fall. If you can’t complete them all, do as many as you can. There are many people that have competitive GPAs and get into the UCs missing a few pre-reqs and end up completing them there.

I mean if you have AP credits from HS you can do it in one. I choose to stay for two years because the financial aid was good, I was receiving about 6.5K year round. I know saved at least 10K for grad school or Med School, since the last two years of my UC will be paid off my financial aid I mean you could say I am working the system, but going to a CC is a great move for some who is not financially stable, or wants to save up…

Yes, I know a lot of my friends transfer within 2 years. As long as u follow the igetc pattern n Prereq. Don’t take useless classes or be a parttime student.
