UC Transfer Class Timing

I am an econ major planning to apply to USC, UCLA, UCSD, UCB and UCI. I have a few questions

This fall I plan to take the 2nd half of my TAP classes required as well as finish my igetc class at the same time and save the last two prerecs i need for Spring which are Microeconomics and Calculus 2. I was wondering whether or not finishing my last two prerecs prior to transfer would put me at a disadvantage versus taking them during the fall or winter.

I currently have a 3.82 with one year completed and plan to transfer out for Fall 11.

It’s debatable. Last year I applied and had to do Calc 2 in the spring. Almost same situation as you, but I was done with Micro (and actually tutoring the course at the time). Anyway, I would think it would be better to have them done before you apply, but honestly who knows for sure but the admissions folks. Good luck!

Thank you for replying, if you don’t mind me asking, did you make it?

yup  Best feeling ever too! I actually applied Pre Biz Econ, just because I had the accounting classes already done.

The average admitted gpa this year for Econ was 3.95 & for BizEcon was 3.94. But I had about the same GPA as you.

I guess I should mention I’m talking about UCLA.

hmm all right thank you

Prereqs are more important than IGETC. TAP is important, but some schools let you be TAP-certified even if you wont finish the courses by the end of Spring. I’d strongly suggest prioritizing prerequisites, if at all possible.

The last grades UC will use to make an admission decision come from the fall in which you apply. There’s no difference if you take classes in Winter or Spring–they’ll just see those classes as planned.

It’s not going to kill your chances if you wait until Spring, but it will help do finish your prereqs by Fall.

I got admitted to UCLA in Fall 2007 for Pre Biz Econ. 3.46 gpa and TAP  I feel lucky I got in but I never underestimate TAP.

I actually didn’t finish one of my honors classes I was taking in Spring 2006 because the teacher was difficult to deal with but the honors coordinator at my CCC told me that it was fine. I ended up with regular credit for that class but not honors credit. My UCLA acceptance was not reneged.

But that’s 4 years ago :_:

lol, that’s come up in two threads I’ve seen today smith… that times have changed.
