Is it really that hard and unpredictable?

I hear a lot of perfect SAT scores and 4.0 gpa students getting rejected from schools like harvard and stanford. When they talk about these students, are they the ones that have these perfect scores AND great extra-cirriculars? Is there really no guarantee?

(I could understand the schools rejecting straightA(AP), perfectSAT students if they had weak extra-cirriculars, but if they were a high-end, well-rounded student and got rejected, thats just plain scary...)

People on CC, in my opinion, exaggerate it slightly, but it still is really unpredictable. I wish there was some kind of formula to calculate acceptance or rejection.

haha..
yea. i hope there was!!
